GRENOBLE GREEN DEVELOPMENT

Within a natural Alpine context, a narrow polluted junction at the bottom of 3 valleys, the Grenoble Metropolitan Community, is carrying out a high quality social, architectural and environmental project in line with the Grenoble Climate Plan. Renewable energy sources (RES) are produced through the building of two photovoltaic (PV) plants of 1000 m2 each (~100 kW) and a micro hydroelectric plant on the Isere river, while energy efficiency (EE) in buildings is developed.

Energy efficiency measures (EE) in Grenoble are improved through the French HQE approach (High Environmental Quality), and by cooling with environmentally friendly solutions instead of using standard air-conditioning.

PROMOTE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

All new buildings are erected with an energy performance, which are far better than existing French regulations. All CONCERTO buildings will be supplied either by natural gas cogeneration with solar thermal panels, or by district heating from bio-mass.

In new dwellings, space heating demands are cut by 44% and other energy demands by 23%, compared with current regulations, whilst the cuts at a school is 37% for space heating and 50% for other energy demands. This approach is promoted for all city new developments.

The French National Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME) and the local Energy Agency, will introduce an incentive and mobilisation program of accompanying measures aimed at public and private building owners, in order to encourage them to implement EE and RES improvements to their properties. The aim is to create a sustainable development culture in the building sector, supported by building owners and users.
