action of cities to mainstream energy efficient building and renewable energy systems across Europe
act2 comprises the sites of Hannover in Germany and Nantes in France, as demonstration communities. In association Koszalin in Poland, Malmö in Sweden and Newcastle in United Kingdom, collaborate to apply at a district scale integrated concepts of energy provision, combining uses of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency technologies, rational energy use and innovative energy management.
The project fits in the climate and energy policies developed in the five act2 communities. It promotes the large-scale energy efficiency integration in new constructions and refurbishments as well as the mainstreaming of renewable energy systems in m2.
Hannover and Nantes are the two demonstration communities. They both aim at applying high energy performances in districts under urban renewal.
As associated cities with various backgrounds in energy policy and sustainable urban planning, Koszalin, Malmö and Newcastle collaborate to the project to foster know-how exchange and to disseminate respective good practices locally implemented.
The project started in January 2006 and will end in December 2012.
